VSP Studios Utilizes the PARABOLIX OMNI LED for LASCANA eCommerce

Fashion is a volatile business that presents itself as an ever evolving landscape to those trying to sell apparel online with any consistency. Even some of the biggest names in the industry have had their ups and downs with finding their footing. A challenge to navigate the situation to say the least. Its these challenges that some find exciting and enticing. To survive in the fashion industry one must be willing to take some calculated risks, and go for it, as they say. I think this is one of the elements that attracts so many to work in the fashion e-commerce industry. I can attest to this, as I am one those people.

As the owner of VSP Studios, my crew and I create fashion lifestyle campaigns, marking editorials, and e-commerce website content for wholesalers and retailers of the fashion industry. Helping our clients present their new apparel collections is our goal, and now we have moved into what we call on-model product page 360 videos.

As fashion sellers try to find the best way to attract, maintain, and raise their conversion rates, videos have emerged as the weapon of choice. By placing short play videos of 10 to 15 seconds on their product page listings, online sellers are finding greater success with offering short play videos of a model showcasing the apparel items. These videos appear as one of the thumbnail options, and are also very organic SEO friendly. The videos offer the customers a way to see the garment moving, how it fits on a real body, and becomes more relatable by delivering content in a way that they are used to. Lets face it, we live in a TikTok world and portrait mode, full screen videos are the way to deliver this fashion content. Users today are very accustomed to story postings, reels, and pretty much all the platforms we use have a video feed of some sort. These same videos have a dual purpose for apparel sellers, as they have rich new content that can be used on social media, as promotions, special announcements, or when they want to boost traffic to a specific collection item. These “French fry delivery” 360 spin videos attract shoppers to click, and dive deeper into the shopping experience. Video content, also allows for more dynamic analytics options for the marketing campaigns can be more effective and get more bang for the buck.

Utilizing short play, product page based videos that convert apparel sales is the future of e-commerce fashion.

Last year, towards the end of the pandemic closure times, I was contacted by the e-commercre marketing team from Lascana. This fashion brand is owned by the Otto Group (GmbH & Co KG) which is based in Germany, and is one of the world's biggest e-commerce companies on the planet. Based in Hamburg, but with offices in Jacksonville, Florida they operate in more than twenty countries. Anyone in the fashion game today, knows this German based company carries a giant volume of apparel and fashion accessories every year. Being able to work with them would be an amazing opportunity for VSP, and I was excited to show them what we could do.

Their e-commerce team was interested in speaking to VSP Studios about how we were developing these new “product page based videos” specifically formatted for selling and marketing fashion apparel. This was something that I had been working on for quite some time. Using the proper camera, lens, and lighting, and finding the right formula was the trick. After many trail and error attempts, I felt like I finally had the VSP video work flow and gear in place, but there was something missing. What would I be using for my main light?

Lascana Miami Swim Week Collection 2022 - 360 Product Page Video - VSP Studios eCommerce Fashion.

Looking to updagrde my lighting set up, and find a solution where I can shoot both photos, and videos, I found my way over to Parabolix.com. Having the right modifier is a key to achieving the right lighting that shows off the apparel properly and the new Para 55 was the right choice. Just big enough to cover the entire head to toe of a model standing on set, and with a focusable lighting rod option to dial in as needed. Looking for something more intense and contrasty? Use the focusing rod to adjust the light inward. Looking for a softer light? Focus the light back away from the modifier. I felt like this adjustable capability was going to be the way to deliver the light onto the model. Now all I needed was the right light to go with my new Para 55.

I placed my order for the parabolic modifier, and after speaking to the owner David, he had me sold on buying the entire Parabolix system, which included the amazing QUAD BOOM. This boom arm goes onto my studio crank-roller stand and is the ideal way to use these giant para modifiers. With the lighting head placed on the end of the focusing rod, it makes more sense to have a properly designed boom arm to control the lighting system in a busy fashion studio environment. The design of this boom is made for studio photographer who need to lower or raise the light to dial in as they shoot from set to set.

Once we started talking, David took a look at VSPstudios.net and saw what we do here in Miami. He mentioned that he may have the light I’m looking for to go along with my new para modifier and boom arm. I, of course, was very interested in hearing what he had in mind. I have searched for everything and found the same issues that other content creators have encountered. There are great powerful lights in panel or COB form factors with many good lighting options available, but always an issue of color accuracy and consistency. There was also the fact that I needed something different, so I could achieve a signature VSP look and style. Which is something I am always looking for. David went on to tell me that he was shipping me a prototype LED light that was designed especially to be used with the para modifiers. A cylindrical shaped LED light source with a high CRI, that is capable of putting out enough power to use in my fashion photography work flow.

Being able to shoot the photos as quickly, and seamlessly as possible, shoot a 360 spin video was the ultimate goal. That way I could maintain the amount of content that my clients require me to create each work day. Getting images up on my client’s websites quickly allows them to start selling. Providing color accuracy on the videos would also play a big part of the process, as all online sellers want to cut down on returns due to the color or fit not being right. The videos allow a way to present the product in a way that speaks to these 2 key issues. Being able to deliver high end video content that helps my customers be more efficient in the selling process was my goal when I first began to delvelope the product page video work flow model for VSP Studios.

After testing the new prototype LED light, dialing in the camera system, and post production process, I was ready give it a real world test with a video shoot for Lascana.com. The model was Kia Archer from Elite Models Miami, and the clothing would be a new Spring collection that was soon to go on market. When something great is achieved, it’s never just one thing that makes it. It’s truly a combination of all the elements coming together, and this was just the case. The new lighting set up with the all new OMNI LED LIGHT gave me the ability to keep the color accuracy on point and I could clearly see the difference in the overall quality of the light. The skin tones and fabric details were looking better than ever. I used the Par 55 and I also used a large “strip bank” soft box style, modifier.

We have now completed multiple video productions with Lascana, and have seen how the response from their customer base is a positive one, and I am hoping that we can work more together.

We have all heard the term “lighting is everything”, but in this case it truly was. This new LED light fixture was the difference maker I was looking for, so I could dial in the Lascana video content with the right color and tonality. The more I used this light video sets, the more I found it was also allowing me to shoot photos with the same color accuracy. A seamless photo to video photoshoot work flow, allows my team to shoot many items per day, and keep up with the high demand of a our fashion clientele. This new style of content creation where the photo and video work together to present the item for sale is the new norm. In the coming holiday season, you will be seeing more websites offering e-commerce based video content on their listings.

Be sure to check out the Omni LED and try it on your next production. I highly recommend it. See you at Miami Swim Week 2022 in Miami. Let there be light!

Anytime I have an opportunity to have my work published with an iconic brand name like Victoria’s Secret I am excited. Working with amazing designers like Hana Lloyd from Ochie Swim is what we do at VSPstudios. Working with talented people like Hana makes my work day that much better. Coming together to present the collection visually is all part of the process, and work flow that my team and I do all day, everyday at the studio in Miami. Often times clients such as Ochie will come in asking for us to create ghost mannequin images, which they use to display on the product age listings, and end up working with us on the on-model photography images, as well. Knowing how to present swim wear fashion collections, that are photographed and optimized properly helps the wholesaler or retailer to sell their apparel items. You can check out my previous blog post about how VSP Studios created the ghost mannequin images for VictoriasSecret.com.

There is an science behind how you present items to be sold online, and in the swim fashion industry, Im proud to say I have been able to work with many of the best in the game. Hustling the e-commerce fashion selling game is a trick everyone is trying to stay on top of. Fashion brands from all over the world contact VSP Studios, and show us the analytics, and provide key data feedback, which we apply to how we create the images and now video content for our clients. Fashion is a volatile business, and to find success, you must know how to navigate your way to the top. “The proof is in the pudding”, my Pops used to say. Go get yours!

Ochie Swim is all about that Caribbean beach vibe, and the quality of their swimwear is amazing. Embodying the island beach lifestyle. I get to see many new collections before they go to market, and I knew that Hana’s new designs would be winners. Seeing it go live online for Victorias Secret has the future looking bright for her and her brand. Make sure you check out the entire Ochie collection, and wear it to your next pool party.

The Ochie brand makes more than just swimwear. See the entire OCHIE COLLECTION here.

Selling apparel online as an e-commerce wholesaler or retailer requires that your collection be appropriately displayed. Hero banners, product page listings, and social media postings for marketing are part of how apparel sellers present their collections. Showcasing your merchandise with ghost mannequin images attracts the buyer who wants to see the authentic silhouette of the item and get a feel for how it is cut.

It’s essential to prepare for this shift in the marketplace from brick and mortar to e-commerce with a solid online presence. To accomplish this, your fashion brand needs to have top converting, high-quality professional images. Invisible ghost mannequin fashion photography is a vital part of many successful fashion apparel websites, and Amazon product page listings.

MODLILY-Nicole-Clothing-5693.jpg

Ochie swim chose VSP Studios to photograph their new swim collection via ghost mannequin imagery. VSP Studios specializes in e-commerce fashion apparel content creation. Their team of professionals has over 25 years of experience in the fashion industry. See below on how the creative process for Invisible Ghost Mannequin Photography works.

The Ghost Mannequin Production Process

The product page imagery has to be professionally done right to increase an online shopper’s desire to purchase your products. Starting with the proper equipment, including the right camera, lighting, etc., and most importantly, the suitable photo-ready mannequin. This mannequin is different from the typical retail window display mannequins. These mannequins have detachable parts that allow for an easier set-up and less postproduction processing. Knowing how to light the garments, align the images via Photoshop is the natural talent behind the process.

You will undoubtedly need a hardworking, committed team that knows all the tricks to shoot apparel items properly—styling and prepping each garment, so the items are ready for the photoshoot process. Proper fit of the items on the mannequin is vital to show off the apparel, highlight the client’s merchandise, and help influence the final sales decision. The more work done during this part of the production, the less time and hard work spent in the postproduction.

Next in the process is image processing. For that invisible body effect or “hollow man effect” technique to come to life, a professional digital artist with precise and organized photoshop skills finalizes the images taken into one final image. Finally, photo image manipulation techniques are digital magic that is used to make it all come together.

Shot on the beautiful beaches of Siesta Key, Florida, Victor was part of the crew that would photograph the debut collection for JMP the Label. The swimwear collection was featured on Season 4 - Episode 10, "I'm truly, truly, very, very sorry," with Juliette Porter, one of the main cast members launching the brand.

I shot the entire 2 days out on location with the new Canon R5, and I have to tell you how amazing this new mirrorless camera system is. It was so windy that models could only last outside for a short time. Utilizing the IBIS, along with the insane level of focusing capability at shallow apertures, I was able to battle the wind hand-held. The 85mm 1.2 and the 50 mm 1.2 were the ideal lenses to get some amazing images and not fall overboard. My assistant Sophia was right behind me with her wide-angle lens, and she nailed it! So happy with how it all turned out. She also made sure our gear didn’t fly away. Thank you to all the amazing cast and crew at MTV Siesta Key.

MTV’S SIESTA KEY

Siesta Key is located off the coast of Florida and is known for its magnificent beaches. The show follows young adults and captures heart-wrenching moments of confronting disputes of love, heartbreak, and the emerging issues that come with adulthood. All while spending glorious, never-ending summers in their hometown of Siesta Key Beach, Florida. Where better to shoot an MTV's reality series and launch a swimwear collection than the sandy beaches of their home town Siesta Key? Such a beautiful beach and boating community just 1 hour south of Tampa.

Juliette Porter, the lead character of MTV reality series Siesta Key, and designer Jaymi Washburn teamed up to create a sexy, modern swimwear collection. Trend Studio Bali's boutique factory, a female-owned apparel business located in Bali, was the driving force behind the brand. As if trending and versatile swimsuits aren't enough, JMP the label is constantly developing a workflow to lower its carbon footprint. For instance, their up-cycled and recycled materials are used in part to create chic swimwear items. Using the proper techniques and industry knowledge, JMP reduces textile waste and decreases its carbon footprint. Moreover, the brand owners have developed reusable packaging that is very resourceful for carrying wet bathing suits or beach accessories.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Victor Sanabrais and assistant Sophia McHugh shot on-model e-commerce fashion photography at Juliette Porter's boyfriend Sam Logan's house in Sarasota, Florida. Alongside them is the excellent hair and makeup team Juliet and Jaymi. Helping JMP The Label come to life on set were Eri Vincent, Cheyanne Clark, model Allison Mason, Celine Farach, Nicole Ashley, and fellow cast members Chloe Trautman, Brandon Gomes, and Amanda Marie Miller.

Victor Sanabrais photographer in a photoshoot at Sam Logan’s house in Siesta Key FL, with model Allison Mason for JMP The Label collection.

On the second shoot day, the swimwear collection was photographed on a private beach backyard scene in Siesta Key. The house was right on the edge of the most beautiful white sand beach blue water with rock formations seen in the area. Later that day, models, crew, and cast members boarded a yacht at Marina Jack in Sarasota. The goal was to capture the best golden hour images while the boat serves as the backdrop, along with the beautiful setting sun in the west.

Victor captured models Allison, Celine, Nicole, cast members Chloe, Brendan, Juliette Porter, and boyfriend Sam Logan enjoying the yacht and representing the JMP Label swimwear collection. MTV filmed Victor and the crew navigating through the boat and shooting in different scenes. High winds coming in from the gulf made for a challenge holding all the cameras steady and managing the model's hair, but the results speak for themselves. Great job to all who were a part of this production!

Video content has proven to be an effective means of engaging audiences and promoting products. 73% of US adults are more likely to purchase after watching an online product page video, and 96% of consumers consider videos helpful when it comes to shopping online. Attention capturing e-commerce fashion apparel videos will boost your brand’s organic SEO and conversion rates.

Expand your brand’s reach by embarking on a social media marketing strategy, which depends mainly on promoting video content. For instance, it is highly recommended to use vertical e-commerce product page videos on social media platforms story postings such as  Instagram and Facebook. Linking these videos back to your websites increases traffic flow. Analytics show a 127% increase in pages visited on sites with video content. People spend 81% more time browsing on a website with product page videos. We hold our smartphones vertically 94% of the time. Why not market your brand to fit this fashion apparel market?

Amazon

If your brand on Amazon hasn't been optimized with product page videos yet, then you are already behind your competition. Amazon has updated its brand's registry and no longer offers a restricted program. They now propose and suggest the chance to have product videos on listings. Four out of five online shoppers reported saying that a video has helped them make purchases in the past. With simple features and product page videos, your customers will get the help they need to decide to purchase.

Shopify

Shopify is an e-commerce platform that allows anyone to set up an online store to sell their products. Last year Shopify announced the launching of the new APIs for their developers. Including the media API, which allows developers to create, update, and remove new product media types, including video. They can embed e-commerce product page videos, which increases the ranking of your brand’s organic SEO. Also, associating video content with a product will boost your overall sales and enhance the customer’s shopping experience.

Google

Search engines are the backbone of the internet. Google, one of the world's most significant search engines, has updated its algorithms and brought back the opportunity to increase your brand's Search Engine Results Page, or SERP, through the use of metadata in product page videos. SERPs are the web page listings that appear after one searches keywords on Google. From an organic standpoint, a brand's placement in SERP depends on your keyword strategy and content. Metadata is the text found inside the video file that references the video, for instance, location. Search engines use video metadata to show video results. Videos are now more powerful than a still image of your merchandise, and Google is now benefiting SEO engagement.

Selling online can be difficult. Using professional ghost mannequin product photography creates the most efficient, and effective way to sell fashion apparel items through e-commerce website platforms like Shopify. Ghost mannequin images allow for your potential customers to visualize your garments with a 3D look, and feel that showcases the true silhouette of the item. The hiring of a model is more time consuming, and requires a higher production budget.

Online shoppers associate well with e-commerce fashion ghost mannequin images, and displaying your garments in this manner provides a higher return on investment. Keep reading to find out exactly why.

Ghost Mannequin Photography

Selling apparel online as an e-commerce wholesaler or retailer requires your collection to be appropriately displayed through hero banners, websites, product page listings, and via social media marketing. Showcasing your merchandise this way attracts more traffic to your selling platforms. Having high-quality, high converting product page images within your Shopify store, while complementing this with impactful branding images on the front end of your site is the ideal situation.

It's essential to prepare for this shift in the marketplace from brick and mortar to e-commerce with a strong online presence. To accomplish this, your brand needs to have a top converting, high-quality professional image. Showcasing your apparel designs through this production process has proven to have a positive customer response, and client based data shows that conversion rates are high when this is done right.

The Ghost Mannequin Production Process

To increase an online shopper's desire to purchase your product, the the final images have to be professionally done right. Starting with the proper equipment, which includes the right camera but, most importantly, a suitable photo-ready mannequin. To emphasize, this mannequin is different from the window display mannequins. For starters, and probably the most convenient part is the detachable parts that allow for easier set-up.

Next, to pull this production process off, you will need a hardworking and committed team. From styling to prepping, each garment must be in its best condition to really stand out during the photoshoot and fit the mannequin properly to represent the client's merchandise in the best way possible. The more work done during this part of the production, the less time and hard work spent in the postproduction.

Professional e-commerce fashion photographers have experience in shooting the proper angle combinations. Various angles of the merchandise are captured to align the pieces later together, which leads us into one of the final steps of producing ghost mannequin images, photoshop image processing.

Professional photographers must have precise, and consistent photoshop skills for that invisible body effect or "hollow man effect" technique to come to life. Highly skilled photo image manipulation techniques achieve perfect looking images that will increase your sales.
