Going on location to shoot a fashion collection can be challenging endeavor. Dealing with ever changing weather conditions, overseeing the logistics of transporting the crew and gear, is just a small part of what must be managed to achieve the final objective. This is where years of experience comes into play. Knowing how to put fires out, and how to adapt to the elements that are out of your control is the best minds set to carry you through the day. What makes it more enjoyable is when we are working with a model, and crew that is all on the same page. Photographing an amazing resort collection from Lascana with the amazing model Geisa, is my kind of perfect photoshoot day. An important part of the process for location photoshoots is establishing a basecamp. This is where the crew can prepare the clothing, download images for review, set up the lighting gear, and hair and make up changes can be dialed in. It takes a team to set this all up, and make it all come together.
To shoot an entire day out on location requires having the right lighting equipment and refelctors to get this done. The sun position will often times be overhead and this requires a large scrim to cut the harsh sun off the model. We fill this in with reflectors and at times, high speed sync flash. Dialing in all this gear and keeping the model on point with the styling is a challenge that requires a good crew of assistants. Lucky for me, my VSP team is always there to help me get the shot.
